 The article ”Everything You Need To Know About Tesla’s New 4680 Battery Cell”, written by (Field, 2020), talks about how the new battery is a game changer, the new improvements and features that Tesla has made to its battery leading to the Tesla’s 4680 tables battery. The 4680 is a specific type of lithium-ion(Li-I) made by Tesla. Li-I battery is a type of rechargeable battery being widely used in many areas like electronics, electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

According to Williams they are being currently used in Tesla models Y and the plan to include them in the other Tesla models cars replacing other Tesla batteries like the 2170 and 18650 and even including the Cybertruck.


 The 4680 is a total redesign of the battery compared to its other models. According to the article by Field, there are three main advantages of the 4680 compared to its counterparts like the 2170. Firstly, its advanced and improved capabilities of storing more energy in the same size, quicker charging and greater battery life. The second advantage is that the manufacturing process is more simple and easy. Lastly, the battery has a more efficient way of thermal dissipation. To summarise, the 4680 is the superior battery that Tesla has come up with, making its other models inferior.



 

Thesis

The new line of Tesla’s 4680 battery is a much better improvement to its counterpart the 2170 as it allows for a more efficient battery performance and improved thermal dissipation than the previous models. Another reason is because of the total redesign of the battery it has made the manufacturing process better and less complex.
